This project was centered around creating a book with interactive components. I chose to do mine on the history, aesthetics, and ideologies of the Queercore movement––a subculture of a subculture.

Like all punk subcultures, Queercore was passed around heavily through music and zines, which is what mainly inspired my layout choices. Most of the zines I used as reference can be accessed freely at the QZAP Archive.

Queercore Zine Examples

The book was designed to have both physical and digital interactivity. Physical options included a reusable stencil sheet to make your very own patches, and a tear-out mini-zine on how to get started on making your own!

The digital interactivity was done through a series of videos combining animations, footage, music, and audio quotes of LGBT+ musicians and activists. The videos are accessible through the app Artivive.
